Isolation Creation Self Portrait Series: Persephone

Inspired by Jamie Beck’s series of COVID-19 quarantine photographs, I decided to join the movement that’s been sweeping through social media.

She created a hashtag #isolationcreation - inviting others to get creative during this time when we’re all isolated in the confines of our own homes.

For a while now I wanted to start exploring different characters and create images exploring these people and ideas floating around in my head.

Being in quarantine has allowed me a lot of time to sit, reflect and work on my inner self. I’ve been aiming to use this time productively though somedays are difficult to get motivated to do anything. It feels like the collective feeling at the moment is that we all want to use this time to do something good for ourselves but some days are too much of a struggle.

My intention for making these images is to bring some fun and life into these dark and uncertain times. To explore parts of myself, which in the past I’ve rejected/not had time for/ignored.

Having come from a background in ballet and performance, it became ingrained in me from an early age to able to dress up and create characters, even in everyday life.

I thought what better time than this to get creative with the simple props I have.

First up, the tale of Persephone…
